Official medical assessment

Section 8 FSG provides the framework for assessments of medical fitness to drive in driving licence proceedings. It also addresses cases requiring special medical reports or a traffic psychology opinion and an assessment by an official medical officer.

The actual invitation, decision and file reference determine what the authority is examining. An online selection cannot determine that question.

List the reports, opinions and evidence expressly named in the letter. Order available documents by date and source. If an item is missing or unclear, record that open point rather than choosing a substitute medical report yourself.

The medical assessment checklist keeps the letter, requested records, appointment, additions and later correspondence separate.

The appointment and the assessment are not the same. The appointment gathers or discusses the required medical basis. The assessment contains the professional conclusion used in the procedure. A website cannot predict the examination or infer a conclusion such as fit, conditionally fit, restricted fit or unfit.

After the appointment, further reports may be requested. Keep that request, the stated submission method and proof of every submission. Do not calculate a deadline that is not stated in the letter.

Once the assessment is available, the authority may continue the driving licence procedure. The next legal step depends on the assessment, the subject of the procedure and any later decision. Keep the assessment, covering letter and later authority decision together.
