An official medical assessment evaluates medical fitness to drive under section 8 FSG. It is expert evidence for the authority’s decision.
It may address fitness, conditional fitness, restricted fitness or lack of fitness. Required medical records depend on the referral question and authority request.
A typical context is an examination following doubts about fitness or before a decision on time limits and conditions. The assessment and decision serve different functions.
