Passing the practical driving test creates a separate transition period. The provisional licence may allow driving until the card arrives, but class, validity and conditions still need to be checked.

Section 13 FSG governs when the entitlement is treated as granted and sets limits for the provisional document. Keep the test record, provisional document and official photo ID together.

The statutory basis is § 13 FSG.

Read the passed test and document together

After a successful practical test, the entitlement is generally treated as granted. That is separate from the question which document you receive and which periods, restrictions or conditions are entered.

Check the passed class and every restriction on the provisional licence. Do not infer an entitlement for a class not shown on the document solely from the test registration.

The provisional licence lasts no longer than four weeks

The provisional licence applies until the card is delivered, but no longer than four weeks from handover. The period cannot be extended. The handover date, not merely the test date or planned dispatch, matters.

The document permits driving only for the relevant class and within Austria. It does not create international validity.

Carry official photo ID as well

The provisional licence is valid only together with a valid official photo ID. The licence, identity record and actual delivery are separate document questions.

Keep a copy of the provisional document and record its handover. If the card does not arrive, clarify dispatch and current status early.

Conditions must be reflected in the document

Periods, restrictions and conditions must be reflected in the provisional document. A later change may require a new licence and surrender of the previous document.

The medical assessment focus area explains medical periods and conditions. This article stays with the document position after the test.

Secure the chronology if delivery is delayed

Record test date, handover, class, ID, dispatch notice and authority replies in one chronology. This shows whether the four-week period is still running and which record is missing.

For an individual review, the original document, delivery status and entries matter. A telephone statement does not replace the provisional or delivered licence.

Document review

Which record answers which question?

Read status, legal basis and proof separately.

Review records and dates separately
Test result Passed practical test and class That every requested class was issued
Test result Passed practical test and class That every requested class was issued
Provisional licence Class, conditions, handover and time window That it lasts longer than four weeks
Official photo ID Additional identity record for driving That a copy replaces valid ID

The complete file and current authority position remain decisive.
