Section 1 of the Austrian Health Requirements Regulation for Driving Licences distinguishes group 1 and group 2. Group 1 includes, among others, categories AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE and F. Categories C, C1, CE, C1E, D, D1, DE and D1E belong to group 2.
This distinction matters when assessing whether a medical restriction automatically affects every category. The stricter group 2 requirements may mean that category C can no longer be issued or renewed while the requirements for group 1 remain satisfied. This is not an automatic consequence. The concrete medical assessment and the operative part of the authority decision remain decisive.
