An invitation to an official medical assessment does not answer every question about the driving licence proceedings. Preparation starts with the complete wording of the letter. It identifies the reason, the authority question, the appointment, the examination venue and the records expressly requested.

This article organises the documents and explains the statutory framework. It gives no medical assessment and draws no conclusion about fitness to drive. Keep the complete letter and service information ready for legal review.

The legal framework for the official assessment

Section 8 FSG provides the framework for medical reports on fitness to drive motor vehicles. If special medical reports or a traffic psychological statement are required, an official medical assessment may form part of the authority's fitness assessment. The letter from the authority determines which question the individual proceedings must answer.

The statutory classification therefore has to be read together with the individual file. Read the request and its attachments and use the terms appearing there. This keeps the distinction clear between an examination appointment, a particular report and a further statement.

Read the invitation, decision and attachments completely

An invitation may provide the practical details of an appointment. A decision or separate order may also require a specific action and set a deadline. These documents have different functions. File every page and attachment together with the file reference, the named authority, the appointment, time and examination venue in a single chronology.

Copy deadlines and requirements exactly from the relevant letter. General online information cannot supplement an individual request or replace an unclear statement from the authority. If letters conflict or an attachment is missing, record that open issue for the next review.

Organise requested reports and records

  • complete invitation, order or decision with every attachment
  • file reference and contact details of the named authority or examination office
  • appointment date, time and venue as stated in the letter
  • your own list of every expressly requested report and statement
  • existing records in legible and orderly form
  • proof of records already submitted or supplied later

The list separates records already available from open items. Do not choose a substitute report based on an assumption. The relevant question is which record the authority actually requests and whether its submission can be shown. The medical assessment check supports this practical preparation.

Secure the later procedural record

After the appointment, keep the confirmation, records handed over and every later communication together. If the authority requests further reports, note the exact wording, the delivery method and the deadline stated in that letter. Keep a dispatch or receipt record with the relevant submission.

After the assessment, the authority may continue the proceedings and take further decisions. The possible legal consequence depends on the assessment, the subject of the proceedings and any decision that is issued. The invitation alone does not show the outcome. The invitation and assessment checklist helps keep the record complete.

Section 8 FSG provides the statutory framework for fitness to drive and medical assessments in driving licence proceedings.
Preparation check

Are the invitation, appointment and requested records organised?

The check does not assess medical reports. It only shows which information from the authority letter is still missing.

01 Question 1

Is the invitation or decision complete with every attachment?

All paths at a glance

Overview of all answers.

01

The organisational basics for the appointment are in order.

Take the complete letter and the records it requests. Note which documents are already available and which may still need to be supplied. This check says nothing about fitness to drive.

02

At least one detail in the authority letter is still unclear.

Read the invitation and attachments again and record the open point in the wording used by the letter. Do not add assumed requirements. Legal questions should be reviewed from the complete file.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should I take every medical report I have to the appointment? +
Start with what the invitation or decision expressly requests. Other existing records may be kept in order. Whether they are medically required or legally relevant cannot be assessed in general terms.
Does the online check assess my fitness to drive? +
No. It orders information from the letter and produces a preparation list. It replaces neither the examination nor a medical assessment.
What should I retain after the appointment? +
Keep appointment confirmations, records handed over, requests for further documents and later authority communications together.
What if the invitation and an attachment contain different information? +
Keep both documents complete and mark the discrepancy using their exact wording. Legal classification requires review of the complete file and service information.
