The early category B licence has its own training structure. Supervisors, vehicle marking, logbook, training sessions and the practical test must not be treated like ordinary lessons.

Section 19 FSG sets the main points for training drives. Keep authorisation, consent, supervisor details, mileage records and confirmations together.

The statutory basis is § 19 FSG.

Training drives require authorisation and supervision

Training drives may take place only under supervision. For minors, parental consent generally has to be provided unless a supervisor is a parent or guardian.

Check the approved model, named supervisor and records submitted to the school.

The logbook and vehicle marking belong to each drive

A logbook must be kept and the vehicle must be marked as required. A log reconstructed from memory cannot replace contemporaneous records.

Record date, route, mileage and supervisor consistently.

The 3,000 kilometres form part of the training

Section 19(3) FSG requires at least 3,000 kilometres. Training follows each 1,000 kilometres and a perfection session follows 3,000 kilometres.

The kilometres should be distributed over periods of at least two weeks. A final total does not show the full history.

The school confirmation is needed for the practical test

After the required training and no earlier than age 17, the test may be taken if the school confirms completion.

Keep confirmation, logbook and training records. An appointment does not replace confirmation.

The probation period may continue beyond 18

If category B is granted before age 18, the probation period continues at least until age 21 under section 19 FSG.

Separate the extended probation period from the training phase and review the original entries.
